He enlisted (re-enlisted?) in
the Royal Engineers on 31 May 1915 and went on active service
later that year. According to his medal index card he first
served in Egypt (3), and was entitled to the three standard
Service medals. As a Corporal in 455 Field Company he was
wounded on 28 April 1917 but stayed with his unit. He was
wounded again on 19 May of the same year and again remained
on duty. He was eventually demobilised and placed on reserve
in 1919.
