The following is
extracted from a leading article from "Under The Colors", a Salvation
Army magazine for His Majesty's Sailors & Soldiers, dated September 1917.
Sir
Reginald Hart, V.C., K.C.B., K.C.V.O.
Message from a V.C. General
General Sir Reginald Hart, V.C., K.C.B., K.C.V.O.,
Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey, Who has recently been mentioned
in dispatches, is a staunch friend of Service-men. General Hart
has a direct and soldierly way of saying what he means, especialy
when he sees the highest interests of Service-men at stake.
We print with special pride the message the General was kind
enough to send to the Editor of this magazine. The message referred
to is as follows:-
I have to thank you for sending me a copy of "Under
the Colors." My best wishes for its success. Drunkeness
and crime are only the effect - the cause is alcohol."
Yours faithfully,
Reginald C. Hart,
'General.'
