Son of the Army Officer Wm. Edward & (Guernsey born) Lydia Hilliard of St Peter Port. Born at Guernsey.

 

The Royal Aero Club records that he was member no.1079 and qualified to fly a Grahame-White biplane at The Grahame-White School, Hendon in February 1915.

Zeppelin L.14 was conducting a bombing raid over Eastern England and Wm Hilliard was piloting one of three RNAS aeroplanes hunting for it.

Flight Sub-Lieutenant G. Hilliard flying a BE2c, died when his bombs exploded on making a heavy landing at Bacton.

Killed in action, aged, 30 years
