Cambrai Memorial, Louverval
Private George Le Sauvage
1st Battalion, Royal Guernsey Light
Infantry
01/12/1917
Killed in action, aged 34 years. Carved
on the Cambrai East Memorial at Louverval along with a group of R.G.L.I. soldiers
with no known grave. The Guernsey Weekly Press dated 12/01/1918
lists George Le Sauvage as 'Missing' but the Press dated 06/07/1918 reported that
Mrs. E. Le Sauvage, of Les Jardins, St Peter's in the Wood, Guernsey, had received
news from the War Office that her husband George had been killed on or about the
1st December 1917 and was buried in the neighbourhood of Masnieres. He was described
as 34 years of age, son of Mr. N. Le Sauvage, St Peter's, Guernsey and had been
employed by Mr Fallaize, Primrose Cottage, St Peter's and left a widow and seven
children. His brother Ernest, had previously been killed (Gassed) on the 1st May
1916 whilst serving with the 7th Royal Irish Fusiliers and there were still four
Le Sauvage brothers serving with the army during the war. It appears his
grave was lost during the fighting and his name is recorded with honour on the
Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France.
