NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post
of Monday 12 July 1915
Lieutenant D C Marshall Missing. We learn
that Lieutenant D C Marshall of the Lancashire Fusiliers
is reported missing, official information having been
received by his father Colonel W S Marshall, OC of the
East Battalion. The officer, who was on sick leave in
the Island for a few months, left for the Dardanelles
about 2 months ago. His regiment, it will be remembered,
played a gallant part in the attack on the peninsular,
General Sir Ian Hamilton stating in his despatch "it
was due to the complete lack of a sense of danger or
of fear of this daring battalion that we owed our astonishing
success". We sincerely trust that favourable news
will shortly be received of this young officer.
