Born in 1897 at St Martin's, Guernsey.

Served with RGLI until December 1917 he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps which became the Royal Air Force in April 1918 where he served in France until 11/11/1918. He then served in 60 squadron RAF at Risalpur, India.
