Private Andrew James Bridle
D Coy, 7th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers
Born on 19/11/1876, St Peter Port, Guernsey. Son of
George A and Elizabeth M Bridle of St Peter Port. Husband
of Ann Eliza Le Feuvre of 8 Upper Havelet Street, St
Peter Port (17/02/1901, St John's Church, Guernsey).
Uncle of Thomas Harold Bridle who also served.
Enlisted 1/05/1915 with Royal Irish Regiment 3rd Batt
(8846). Previously served RGM. Discharged in Dublin
on 21/10/1916 as no longer being physically fit; he
was 39 years and 11 months old with chronic rheumatism
which he had had since 1900 and which was not aggravated
by military service.
Was admitted on several occasions to hospital with myalgia
starting on 25/03/1916, having only landed in France
5 weeks before before eventually being shipped back
to England on 22/05/1916.
After the war, he moved with his wife and son to Dagmar,
Itchen, Hampshire and worked as a boiler maker's helper
for John I Thorneycroft & Co but was out of work
at the time the census was taken. 5ft 0.75in, 33.5 in
chest, blue eyes, brown hair. Tattooed on both forearms.
