1914-15 Star

 

Born in 1891, St Peter Port. Son of George Athol Bridle (a tailor) and Alice Catherine Foy. Was working as dock laboured for Great Western Railway at the White Rock in 1911, living at School House, St John's. His brother Harold Ernest was still at school. Enlisted 30/07/1914 when he was still working as a docker and living at 1 Clements Road, St Peter Port.

Landed in France 17/12/1915. Deployed to Salonika 10/09/1916 then Alexandria 16/09/1917. Hospitalised with pyrexia 25/09/1916. In hospital with diarrhoea 08/12/1917. Sent back on Hospital Ship HT Malwa on 24/05/1918 to Marseilles. By 16/06/1918 he had influenza in Trouville after moving from Rouen. Discharged in Calais and rejoined Battalion 13/07/1918. 14 days leave from 24/08/1918. Finally appointed paid Lance Corporal 09/11/1918. Demobbed 03/04/1919
