Private Frank Thomas Corbet
1st Battalion, Royal Guernsey Light Infantry
Born in 1896 at Vale, Guernsey. He was the son of Peter
& Mary Selina Corbet.
Frank first enlisted in January, 1915, but in the (Royal)
Army Service Corps as a Driver, regimental number T4/042431.
Home address was Homelands on the Braye Road in Guernsey.
However, he was discharged after a few days as he was
not likely to make an efficient soldier
He re-enlisted in April, 1915, and this time in the
Royal Irish Regiment as no. 7885.
On the 4th October that year he was transferred to
the 7th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers (at Pirbright)
as no. 21809.
On 17th February 1916 he went out to France when the
Battalion was sent there. In 49th Brigade, 16th (Irish)
Division.
In mid-October, 1916 the 7th and 8th Battalions amalgamated.
On the 19th August, 1917, he was posted to a Depot.
The date suggests that he had been wounded a few days
before when the 7th/8th fought at Langemarck (near Ypres)
on about the 16th August.
As with all other 7th/8th Battalion men he was subsequently
transferred to the RGLI as no. 1600.
