Born in 1891 in St Peter port, Guernsey. Living at Mount
Durand in the 1891 census, age 3 months. Son of Albert
Peter and Alice Eiza Domaille (née Falla).
1901 census - still living at no 10, Mount Durand, father
is pier keeper at St Peter Port harbour. No siblings.
In 1911 he is still living with his parents, who are
now aged 50 and 46 but at Armada Place, St John's. He
is age 20, a gas fitter, father is Bonded Stores keeper
for the States of Guernsey.
In February 1915, age 24 and single, he
enlisted with the 6th RIR. His employment is "Fitter"
and he is living at the States offices, North Esplanade
St Peter Port (now the Tourist office).
He went for training at Fermoy in Ireland
before going to France, where he was promoted rapidly,
becoming a Sergeant by November 1915.
A document dated April 1918 asks Mrs Mary Domaille of
States Offices, Guernsey ( his parents' address) to
forward her certificate of marriage to Cork for verification.
The document then went to the Regimental Paymaster at
the Infantry office, so he must have married between
1915 and 1918. A family tree on Ancestry shows that
he married Mary Rowland from Derbyshire at Salem Chapel,
St Peter Port on the 24th of March 1918.
His MIC has the North esplanade as his address, and
it shows that he served with the RIR (Sgt), RGLI (2nd
Lt) and Labour Corps (Lt). He was awarded the 1915 Star,
Victory and BWM.
He was demobilised in 1919, and the next note in the
family tree states that on the 20th of August 1920 he
and his wife arrived in Melbourne, Australia on the
Orvieto from London. The 1924 Australian census has
the family living at Footscray North, Maribyrnong, Victoria,
Australia. Albert and Mary had four children. The 1931
and 1936 censuses show them living at Williamstown North,
Melbourne Ports, Victoria, Australia. Albert and Mary
Domaille returned to the UK and Channel Islands for
a visit in 1951. Albert died peacefully at home in 1975.
