Lieutenant Urban John Kelly
48th Battalion, Chinese Labour Company

 

Urban John KELLY. D.o.B 4th December 1886, Guernsey. He was secretary to the British Council, Chinkiang, China, where he signed up on 26 March 1917. 2nd Lieut, Chinese Labour Corps (48th). Discharged January 1919 on ill health grounds and repatriated to China where he resumed his career. He retired to Guernsey in the early 1950s having been held as a civilian prisoner ( with his family) by the Japanese in Shanghai during WWII. He is buried in the Foulon cemetery, Guernsey.

 

Son of Henry Bernard Kelly & Norah Vermulin. Husband of Constance Helen Martinson
