Stanley enlisted in the Royal Irish Regiment on 23/11/1915 stating his date of age as 19 years and 7 months. When this was discovered he was discharged on 29/03/1916. He enlisted in the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry on 6/03/1918. He didn't serve overseas
