Private (Lance Corporal) Edward Phillip Le
Gallais
8th Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers
He served in France and was was gassed. He was discharged
in 1919.
He re-enlisted during the Second World War, joining
the Wiltshire Regiment for the duration, returning to
Guernsey post war.
Edward Phillip Le Gallais was born on 15 May 1895 in
St Peter Port, Guernsey, the son of Nicolas (born at
Trinity, Jersey) and Catherine, née Reardon from
Auckland, New Zealand. He married Bridget Gleeson from
Dundrum, Dublin on 7 February 1920 in Cashel, Tipperary.
They had seven children during their marriage. Bridget
died in 1954 in Guernsey. Edward died on 21 October
1957 at the age of 62 at St Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth
after possibly living in the Orkney Islands for a period.
