Born in 1884 at Bromley, London. Son of Mary Ann Curtin and the late Thomas McGoverin, St Sampson's, Guernsey. Half brother to Lance-Corporal Robert Curtin (who served as Curtis) and Cpl. Michael James Curtis.

Brother of Second Engineer George McGoverin.

Served in France and wounded in 1915
