A Lewis gunner. Gunshot wound to his left leg which was amputated in Germany following his capture.

Prisoner of War at Cambrai, 02/12/17. Returned to England 08/10/18.

Born on14/06/1898 at St Peter's, Guernsey. Son of Joseph Frederick Savident (fisherman) & Caroline Le Bris of La Hougue Bachele, St Saviours (Richmond).

Enlisted 20/11/1916, when he was working as a fisherman, in the Royal Irish Regiment (556) then transferred to RGLI. Served in France as Lewis gunner 07/09/1917 to 02/12/1917. Rifle bullet to left leg 01/12/1917. Captured at Masnieres. Leg amputated 04/12/1917. PoW 02/12/17-8/10/1918 at Mulheim. Reported missing 22/01/1918. Reported PoW 11/02/1918. Returned to England on 12/10/1918. Hospitalised in London 12/10/1918 for 28 days. Moved to Queen Mary's Roehampton where more left leg was amputated 05/12/18 and convalesced for 49 days (high amputation with only 5in stump). Artificial leg provided as if had been amputated through thigh joint.Discharged on 23/01/19 as no longer physically fit for service (80% disabled). In 1921, was living with his parents at Richmond and had no occupation because he was an invalid. Married to Karoline Franziska. Died on 17/03/1983 at Tameside at age of 85. Received war pension. 5ft 3in tall, 119lb, 35.5in chest
