NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 27 December 1918

Roll of Honour. Ex-Centenier Francis Hamon of Portinfer, St Ouens, and Mrs Hamon have received the sad news of the death of their eldest son, Private Francis Hamon of the Canadian Field Artillery, which occurred on 23 December at New Brunswick in Canada. The deceased, who was in his 21st year, left Jersey in the Spring of 1914 to take up employment in Canada as clerk to Messrs Robin, Jones & Whitman Ltd and joined up some 6 months ago on attaining his 20th birthday. On Thursday of last week a telegram was received by his parents stating that he was seriously ill with influenza and on Monday a second message conveyed the sad news that the illness had had a fatal termination. Had all been well young Hamon was to return to Jersey next summer and his parents had been eagerly looking forward to seeing him again. We tender our sympathy to the bereaved father and mother and other members of the family.
