NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Thursday 1 March 1917

Roll of Honour. The many local friends and acquaintances of Able Seaman Reginald Moore of HMS Blenheim will regret to hear that a telegram has been received from the Admiralty stating that he lost his life on 21 February whilst serving on a vessel of the Auxiliary Mercantile Fleet which was sunk. Gunner, as he was more generally known, was the step-son of Major S Moore of the AOC and the adopted son of Mr H Moore of 27 Dorset Street. He was one of the first local lads to join the 1st Jersey St Simons Troop of Boy Scouts and being of bright and jovial disposition made friends wherever he went. He served as a seaman for some 6 years on the Great Western steamers and later on the SS Brittany. He was actually passing for his Mates Certificate when a call for volunteers for the Royal Navy was made on his ship. Gunner promptly wrote home stating there was "time enough for Mates, they want men to fight, I'll get my ticket after the war". The late seaman was in his 25th year and was highly respected by all he had come into contact with. To his relatives we tender our sincere condolences in their bereavement.
