NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Saturday 19 October 1918

Roll of Honour. As we go to press we regret to learn of the death which took place during the fighting in France on 9 October of Clarence D Nicolle of the Royal Naval Division. The deceased, who was very popular and highly respected, will be remembered as a former Sergeant and champion shot of the RMIJ, he was latterly manager of Mr C S Bailhache's establishment in Charing Cross and joining the Royal Naval Division had shown such efficiency and attention to duty that at the time of his death he was Acting Sergeant Major. The gallant soldier was a son of Mr E Nicolle, a well known municipal employee, and a year of so ago married Miss Elliott, who is left with one child to mourn his loss. We tender the bereaved widow and other members of the family our sincere sympathy feeling that in this we are joined by all who knew the sterling character of the deceased.
