NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post
of Wednesday 5 May 1915
Another Gallant Soldier Killed. It is
with sincere regret we have to report the death of another
gallant soldier, Pioneer Sergeant H E Pettifer of the
3rd Middlesex Regiment who was killed in action with
his Regiment between 10/12 April. The deceased had a
most promising career before him, for in less than 6
years he had risen to his present rank. At the outbreak
of war he was serving in India with his Battalion and
returning home, after a couple of days furlough, proceeded
to the Front. To his widowed mother and many friends
we beg to offer our sincere condolences in their bereavement.
