NEWS ITEM in Jersey Evening Post of Friday 11 December 1914

The Devons - Latest List of Killed and Wounded Men. Mrs Stone of 2 James Street, Exeter has received a letter from the Sergeant Major intimating that her husband, Company Sergeant Major Albert Stone of the 1st Devons, has died of wounds at Bailleul. The deceased, who was 34, was wounded on 24 November and according to the letter referred to passed away on 27 November in spite of the best medical attention. In 1910, when Sergeant, he was one of the successful machine gun team which won first and second prizes in the Salisbury Plain Competition, being personally congratulated by the General Officer Commanding the Southern Command. He was a Freemason and a brother of the Duke of Normandy Lodge in Jersey. To his widow and three children the greatest sympathy will be extended. The deceased was an Old Boy of St David's School.
