Edward Fruing Deslandes was born in St Helier, Jersey 27th January 1866 the son of John Philip Deslandes a Master Mariner and his wife Elizabeth (nee Le Boeuf).

Next traced in The South Wales Star 27th October 1893 announcing the wedding of Edward Fruing Deslandes the only son of Captain John Deslandes of Jersey and nephew of Captain Langlois, Deputy Dockmaster, Penarth to Ruth Woodward, only daughter of Giles Woodward (a Pilot) of Cardiff, on 21st October at St Johns Church, Canton, Cardiff.

Commissioned Temporary Engineer Royal Naval Reserve 7th October 1915 whilst serving aboard the SS Robina, his Medal roll entry TNA ADM171/93 page 154 records serving aboard SS Arethusa 2 a Fleet Messenger vessel, his Royal Naval Reserve commission was terminated 23rd October 1919.

Edward died at Ingham Royal Infirmary, South Shields on 7th May 1920, he was landed ill from his ship the SS Luneberg (German War reparations to P&O) home address recorded as 16 Cambridge Street, Grangetown, Cardiff, his wife Ruth survived him, medals were issued to Next of Kin Ruth Deslandes (Widow).
