London Gazette, 05/03/1918:
"For conspicuous gallantary
and devotion to duty during a hostile raid. When the
enemy gained a footing in the post of which he was in
charge, he shot two of the enemy with his revolver and
at once orgainised a party to attack the rest with the
bayonet and drove them from the post."
He was born in St Helier, Jersey on 24 January
1891, the son of Charles Pierre Leon Le Brun and Minnie
Louisa Le Brun (Nee Madell). Soon after his birth the
family moved to Guernsey and by 1901 were living in
England.
Gordon's paternal grandparents were Gilles Pierre Le
Brun (born Brecey, Manche) and Marie Victoire Adelaide
Le Brun (nee Bourdon born St Germaine-sur-Aye). His
maternal grandparents were from Guernsey. (Wallace Madell
born London and Louisa Sophia Clark born Guernsey)
He joined the Army in 1910 in the South Wales Borderers
and served in the 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment/3rd
Battlion Gloucestershire Regiment. During WW1 he rose
to the rank of 2nd Lt and was awarded the Military Cross.
He died in December 1978 aged 87 years
