Able Seaman Augustus Lucas
HMS Victory 1, Royal Navy

 

Born 04/08/1880 in Guernsey. The Son of Alexis Lucas & Mary Levallie. His father, born in Alderney, was also a mariner and later a fisherman.

He enlisted on 15/01/1904 as Able Seaman for 5 + 7 years to serve until 15/01/1916. He transferred to Reserve 15/01/1909, i.e. after his first 5 years. Active service from 14/10/1912. 5ft 4.75in, brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, 35.5in chest. Design tattooed on left hand, flower on right hand. He served on HMS Britannia from 25 Oct 1912 until 6 Oct 1916 with short periods back at HMS Victory I. Transferred to HMS Excellent 12/10/1916, HMS Seymour on 24/01/1917, back at Victory I 12/04/1918 to 18/06/1918, a month on HMS Attentive II and back to Victory I before being demobbed 11/09/1918.

Received prize money of £33 15s for 1914-18 which was paid to Greenwich Hospital 26/11/1962 plus 10s salvage 29/11/1962. Brother of LS Frank Lucas who also served on the Britannia. In 1921, was a pensioner (single) at the Royal Naval Hospital in Yarmouth.

He died in September 1949 at Yarmouth, Norfolk.
